Update from Oregon Public Health Division on Swine Flu

Decisions about school closure will be made by school officials, in consultation with Oregon Department of Education, our local public health department, and the state Public Health Officer.  Should a school have a confirmed case of swine flu the school could be closed for two weeks. Parents are urged to plan now just in case.

At Phoenix School -

  1. We are encouraging all students to wash regularly and to not touch their eyes, nose, or mouth with their hands.

  2. We are regularly disinfecting common surfaces (like door handles).

  3. Students are instructed to cough into a handkerchief or into their arm.

  4. Should you student feel they are showing signs that could be flu, we also have an aural (ear) thermometer so students may check whether they may have a temperature.

  5. The Parent or guardian of any student showing signs of flu symptoms will be contacted by the school to arrange referral to Douglas County Health Department or for your referral to your preferred health care provider.

Please call your Local Health Department if you have a student at home with an acute respiratory illness (a fever with a cough or sore throat) especially if they recently traveled to an affected area or was in contact with a person from the affected area who also has acute respiratory illness.

In addition, Superintendent Parsons, from Roseburg School District has released the following letter to parents concerning swine flu. Flu Info

Auction 2009

The 2009 Phoenix Auction was a success and we thank the many individuals and businesses who sponsored our event and donated items.  Without your support, this important fundraiser for Phoenix School would not be possible.  We also wish to thank the many attendees who shared an evening with us remembering what it was like to be a student and how many teachers and mentors guided us along our educational paths.  Finally, a thank you to the volunteers, students, and staff that put in immeasurable hours to ensure the event was special.  We thank each of you for your continued belief in Phoenix School and the work we do.
