CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Child Development

Child Development provides a foundation for students interested in any career that works with children.  In the Phoenix Child Development program, students learn the gradual development processes through which babies become adults.  Classroom, child care lab, and cooperative work experience learning activities are combined so that students can become certified day care providers, build a pathway to college programs, or to combine with another area of study (for example Health Technology to help prepare for a college pediatric nursing program).

Child Development courses are offered to all Phoenix students whether they are teen parents, interested in working in an early childhood career (for example daycare provider, preschool teacher, or early childhood education), or simply strengthening their own skills with children in their families.  Students increasingly understand not only the developmental processes and milestones but also why studying child development is important. The course implements: Reading, Writing, Math, Art, Social Emotional Needs and Cultural Awareness.  Students are also actively engaged in Life Skills development which includes meal planning, cooking, and other home science experience.

Phoenix Charter offers a licensed on-site child care for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children which is available to Phoenix Teen parents.  Our child care program provides learning lab opportunities for Child Development students to interact with staff and engage with the child care children to apply their knowledge and gain practical experience.
